Liverpool confirm the departure of Joao Teixeira, who has joined Porto on a free transfer.

Liverpool have confirmed that Joao Teixeira has agreed to join Porto on a permanent deal.

The Portuguese midfielder, who joined the Merseyside outfit's academy from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, has returned to his homeland after rejecting a new deal at Anfield.

After making his first-team debut for Liverpool in February 2014, the midfielder struggled to cement a regular spot in the squad.

Last season under manager Jurgen Klopp, Teixeira made seven appearances and scored one goal, but rather than commit to a new contract at Anfield, the player has decided to join Porto on a free transfer.

The Reds released a statement, which read: "Liverpool would like to wish Joao all the best for his future career with his new club."

Yesterday, Teixeira told Porto's website: "I am very happy. It's a dream for me to play in this great club. I have aspired to wear this shirt because I was used to seeing FC Porto win over the years. I hope everything goes well and I want to give my best."

During his stay at Liverpool, the midfielder was sent out on loan to Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.
