Jurgen Klopp: 'New Liverpool signings have to be the right players'

Jurgen Klopp suggests that Liverpool will only sign new players during the January transfer window if they will strengthen the starting lineup.

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool will 'only move for the right player' during the January transfer window.

Long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been followed by persistent issues with Joel Matip, leading to frequent speculation regarding a new centre-back being signed before the end of the month.

With Fabinho also missing Thursday's fixture with Tottenham Hotspur through injury, Klopp was left facing more questions about potential incomings at Anfield.

While not ruling out any business before Monday's deadline, the German hinted that he would not bring in a fresh face to simply boost numbers in the squad.

Klopp is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "You can imagine that we think about everything. Of course, we thought the whole time, we think the whole time, it's about doing the right thing it's not, I'm not picky or whatever, but we need to find the right player.

"We have players, still not a lot to be honest in the defensive line, it's incredible what's happening there. It's really incredible."

Youngster Nathaniel Phillips and midfielder Jordan Henderson ended the game at Spurs in the middle of defence.
