Liverpool win the eighth edition of the Premier League Asia Trophy with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in Hong Kong.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho have earned Liverpool a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the final of the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Islam Slimani had given Leicester the lead, but impressive efforts from summer signing Salah and Barcelona target Coutinho ensured that Liverpool ran out deserved winners.

Liverpool started the better of the two sides with Coutinho seeing an early effort kept out by Kasper Schmeichel, but it was Leicester who struck an early blow in Hong Kong.

After Marc Albrighton picked out the run of Christian Fuchs, the Austrian international crossed to the back post for Slimani to power home a header from close range.

It took just eight minutes for Liverpool to get back on level terms, however, with Salah's pass inside to Coutinho being followed by a glorious floated pass which found the run of the former Chelsea wideman, who was able to head into the bottom corner from 10 yards out.

Roberto Firmino was the next Liverpool player to try his luck as they started to gain control of proceedings, but Albrighton kept the Merseyside giants honest with a low drive which missed the near post from outside of the penalty area.

It appeared that the two clubs would reach the break on level terms but a minute before half time, Liverpool completed the turnaround when Coutinho lashed a well-struck effort into the far corner from 20 yards.

When the teams returned for the second period, Jamie Vardy was intent on causing all kinds of problems for the Liverpool defence and he should have scored when being given the chance to run towards goal, with Loris Karius doing well to get his body in front of the ball.

Back up the other end, Marko Grujic sent a scissor kick over the crossbar after getting on the end of a Jordan Henderson delivery, before a number of substitutions led to the rhythm of the game being lost.

Daniel Sturridge tried to find the top corner with an instinctive effort from the edge of the box but aside from that attempt, the two teams entered the closing stages struggling to create anything in the final third.

With two minutes left, Ryan Kent attempted to net a third for Liverpool, but Schmeichel was on hand to push the ball away from goal to give the Foxes a chance heading into the final seconds.

However, Leicester could not mount a last-gasp charge and Jurgen Klopp's side were able to claim victory in relatively comfortable fashion.
