David James: 'Salah not indispensable for Liverpool'

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James claims that Mohamed Salah is not indispensable for Liverpool and a big-money move to Real Madrid could be good business.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has warned Mohamed Salah that he is not indispensable for the Reds despite his contribution to Jurgen Klopp's side.

Salah has become one of the Premier League's leading attackers since arriving at Anfield with 104 goals in 165 games across all competitions, including eight in eight top-flight matches this term.

Having tested positive for coronavirus during the international break, Salah played no part against Leicester City, and the Reds were hardly affected by the Egyptian's absence as they stormed to a 3-0 win - with Diogo Jota once again on the scoresheet.

Now, James has warned Salah that he is not indispensable amid speculation surrounding a move to Real Madrid, telling Stadium Astro: "If the price is right, any player is going to be sold. It depends what that price is.

"If Salah went to Man City, I don't think that would be good business for Liverpool. If he went to a different league and a different country, it would make more sense.

"I don't think Liverpool are dependent on Salah and that's a good thing for Jurgen Klopp. However, he would still need replacing. I don't think [Salah]'s indispensable."

Reds manager Klopp has confirmed that Salah has now returned a negative coronavirus test and is therefore in line to return to action in the Champions League against Atalanta on Wednesday.
