Cole: 'Liverpool should not be awarded PL title'

Former midfielder Joe Cole claims that Liverpool should not be awarded the Premier League title if they do not complete their full allocation of games.

Former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole has suggested that he would support the current Premier League campaign being scrapped should it not resume in the near future.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, England's top flight has been suspended until April 30, with the potential of a further delay in the future.

While there have been suggestions that Liverpool should be awarded the Premier League title due to their 25-point advantage, Cole has indicated that he would prefer the season to be declared null and void if it continued past the summer months.

Cole told the Daily Star: "Obviously we need to finish the season as soon as we can, if we're allowed to. That would be ideal. If we can't finish the season, and it's getting close to the following season, the only situation which I think is fair is to just restart it.

"Everyone's tribal. Everyone wants what's best for their clubs. But unless you do a blanket thing for everyone, it's going to have knock-on effects. In my opinion, that's the only solution. Restart from scratch if we cannot finish the league."

"I'm sure there are more intelligent people than me coming up with solutions but we're in a situation as a country where we have to stick together. Everyone in the football world needs to understand that as well. Finishing a 100m race at 70m leaves a lot of arguments."

Over a two-and-a-half-year period between 2010 and 2013, Cole made 42 appearances in all competitions.
