Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's top-of-the-table showdown with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Liverpool welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Anfield on Wednesday evening for a top-of-the-table crunch match between two teams with their sights on the Premier League title.

Only goal difference separates the two sides as things stand, with both having missed the chance to move clear at the top on Sunday when they were held to 1-1 draws.

However, Liverpool have an imperious recent record at Anfield, winning 31 of their last 32 Premier League games there including all six so far this term.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Joel Matip

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Spurs)

Joel Matip was taken off at half time of Saturday's draw with Fulham, leaving Liverpool with a centre-back pairing of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. However, Jurgen Klopp has kept the door open to him still being ready in time for this match, with his back spasms being treated by physios.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk remains Liverpool's most notable long-term absentee and may not feature again this season after sustaining a knee injury in the Merseyside derby.

Joe Gomez

Possible return date: Unknown

Another centre-back on the treatment table, Joe Gomez suffered a knee injury of his own while away with England and is now set to miss a significant chunk of the campaign.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 6 (vs. Manchester City)

Diogo Jota has added to Liverpool's injury concerns after picking up a knee problem in the dead-rubber against FC Midtjylland last week. The summer signing could miss up to two months with the injury.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Xherdan Shaqiri is still sidelined by an injury which was discovered upon his return from international duty - an injury Shaqiri himself did not know he was carrying but one which appears to be more serious than first feared.

James Milner

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

James Milner picked up a hamstring injury against Brighton last month and has missed the past four games as a result - an absence which will grow longer for this match.

Naby Keita

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: December 16 (vs. Spurs)

Having only just returned from one injury, Naby Keita was absent against Fulham with another muscle problem at the weekend. However, this one should not keep him out for too long and Klopp suggested that he could feature on Wednesday if he comes through training unscathed.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Thiago Alcantara is still sidelined by the knee injury he picked up in the Merseyside derby, which has proven to be far more serious than first feared. The midfielder may be back some time this month, but this game will come too soon.

Kostas Tsimikas
