Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. FC Midtjylland

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League clash with FC Midtjylland.

Liverpool travel to Denmark to take on FC Midtjylland in their final Champions League group game on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp's side have already wrapped up their place in the last 16 as Group D winners, while Midtjylland can finish no higher than their current position of fourth either.

The Reds go into the match off the back of an impressive 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend - a game which also saw their injury problems ease somewhat as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Naby Keita returned to the squad.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the trip to Midtjylland.

Alisson Becker

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: December 13 (vs. Fulham)

Alisson Becker has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, but his deputy Caoimhin Kelleher has performed well in his absence with two clean sheets. Liverpool's number one will again be missing for this match, but he could be back at the weekend.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk has made his return to the Liverpool training complex after suffering a knee ligament injury in the Merseyside derby, but it will still be a long time before he is back out on the pitch.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Like Van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara has been missing since the Merseyside derby and Klopp has suggested that the midfielder may not be back until late December at the earliest.

James Milner

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

James Milner picked up a hamstring injury against Brighton & Hove Albion last month and is now working his way back up to fitness, although Wednesday's match will come too soon for him.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

There has been no timescale put on Joe Gomez's injury after he suffered a serious knee problem on international duty with England, but it is clear that the centre-back will miss a significant chunk of the season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: December 9 (vs. Midtjylland)

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is inching ever closer to a return from the knee injury which has kept him sidelined for the entire season so far. A dead-rubber Champions League match against Midtjylland could be the perfect opportunity for him to get some minutes under his belt, but the game may still come just too soon.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Xherdan Shaqiri has not featured since an injury was discovered upon his return from international duty and, while this is ordinarily the type of match he may hope to play in, he is once again expected to miss out on Wednesday.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this Champions League match.
