Liverpool booked their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League in dramatic style this evening as they twice came from two goals down to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-3 at Anfield.
The visitors appeared to have taken the game beyond Liverpool inside 10 minutes when quickfire goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang put Dortmund in control.
Divock Origi pulled one back for the hosts, but Dortmund restored their two-goal advantage shortly before the hour mark when Marco Reus beat Simon Mignolet.
However, Philippe Coutinho rekindled Liverpool's hopes with a goal back, before late headers from Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren sealed a 5-4 aggregate victory on one of the great European nights at Anfield.

7.06pmWhat can we make of those two teams, then? Well, the biggest decision for Jurgen Klopp to make this evening was up front, with both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge staking their claim for a starting berth in recent weeks. Origi was preferred for the first leg last week and responded by scoring that all-important away goal in Dortmund, but Sturridge was back in the starting lineup at the weekend and also got on the scoresheet. However, Origi came off the bench to score twice against Stoke too, and it is the Belgian who gets the nod to lead the line this evening.

7.08pmBehind him there is a start for Firmino in the only change from the side that began the first leg a week ago, with the Brazilian replacing the injured Jordan Henderson. That is likely to mean a slight change in formation for the hosts tonight, with Klopp expected to play a 4-2-3-1 formation rather than the 4-3-2-1 system he has often employed during his time in charge. Lallana will join Firmino and Coutinho in that three behind Origi.
7.10pmIn the absence of Henderson, James Milner gets the armband tonight, and he will hold the midfield alongside Emre Can, who returns to the starting XI having been suspended for the league game against Stoke at the weekend. Both players are key cogs of Klopp's preferred pressing style, although Henderson is also an important element of that so his absence due to a knee injury is a big blow for the hosts tonight.
7.12pmThere are no changes at the back from the first leg, but Lovren and Sakho are restored to the side having sat out at the weekend. Both put in towering performances at the Westfalenstadion and may need to do the same to keep Dortmund at bay again tonight. Clyne once again features on the right and Moreno, who opened the scoring against Stoke on Sunday, is on the opposite flank. Behind them, Mignolet maintains his record of having played every minute in this season's competition so far.
7.14pmAs for Dortmund, they were also much changed at the weekend with one eye on this match, but Thomas Tuchel recalls the majority of his big hitters here. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to be the main threat to Liverpool's goal having found the back of the net 36 times this season, including 10 in the Europa League. Seven of those European goals have come since the start of the group stages, with only Aritz Aduriz managing more in this season's competition proper.

7.16pmAubameyang was fairly quiet in the first leg last week, though, as were the likes of Reus and Mkhitaryan. There is no doubt that those three have the ability to trouble any defence in world football, though, so Liverpool will need to keep a close eye on them once again this evening. Mkhitaryan, who almost joined Liverpool before completing his switch to Dortmund, has hit the woodwork five times already in this season's Europa League.
7.18pmShinji Kagawa, formerly of Manchester United, comes into the side having been left out of the first leg but then getting himself on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw against Schalke at the weekend. He replaces Durm in the team from a week ago, but that is the only change in midfield as Weigl and Castro retain their places in the starting XI. There is no room for Gundogan again, though, as he once again has to settle for a place on the bench.
7.20pmThere is also one change at the back from the first leg, with Sokratis coming in for Bender alongside Hummels at the heart of the defence. Hummels got his side's equalising goal a week ago with a towering header in the penalty area, and he will once again be looking to lead by example tonight. Piszczek and Schmelzer both return to the side having been rested at the weekend, while Roman Weidenfeller resumes his role as cup goalkeeper.
7.22pmThere are plenty of dangers in that Dortmund starting XI, then, but Liverpool did a very good job of limiting their threat in the first leg and will be confident of doing so again tonight. Not too many gave the Reds a chance once they were drawn against the tournament favourites, but no-one know those Dortmund players as well as Klopp and, at the halfway stage of the tie, it is Liverpool who just about have the edge.
7.24pmKlopp will not need telling that the job is far from complete, though, and anything less than another impressive display from Liverpool could easily see them crash out of the competition. They are bidding to reach the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time since 2010, and the signs in the Europa League so far this season have been relatively positive. Liverpool are the only team to make it from the groups to this stage of the competition without losing a single game.
7.26pmIndeed, should Liverpool avoid defeat this evening then they would be the first team in Europa League history to go 12 matches unbeaten in a single campaign from the group stages of the tournament. The main problem so far this term is that seven of their 11 Europa League games have ended as draws, and while it hasn't prevented them from getting this far, only a 0-0 would be enough to see the, through inside 90 minutes tonight should it once again end level.
7.28pmLiverpool have actually only been beaten once inside 90 minutes in their last 14 outings, although they have also lost in extra time against West Ham United in the FA Cup, and on penalties to Manchester City in the League Cup final during that spell. Their form going into this tie was not great, but they followed up their performance in the first leg with another good display at the weekend to pick up their first win in five games.
7.30pmThat victory came against Stoke City here at Anfield, and it would have been especially pleasing for Klopp considering he made a number of changes to his side. The Potters actually went into the match above Liverpool in the table, but goals from Moreno, Sturridge and Origi (2) saw the Reds run out 4-1 winners to leapfrog Stoke into eighth.
7.32pmIt appears as though it has come a little too late for a top-four push in the Premier League, with nine points the gap to Manchester City as things stand, which is a huge ask to make up even accounting for Liverpool's game in hand. That, of course, places even more importance on this competition as it is not only their last remaining chance of winning silverware this season, but it is also their most likely route into the Champions League.
7.34pmThey may be forced to go longer than the 90 minutes, though. Liverpool have drawn three of their last five games 1-1, which would take this tie into extra time tonight. A clean sheet would guarantee progress for Liverpool, but they haven't kept one of them in any of their last five games, since their 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the first leg of their last-16 clash. Incidentally, the second leg of that tie provided one of the 1-1 draws as Liverpool progressed 3-1 on aggregate.
7.36pmLiverpool are a tough team to beat here at Anfield, though. They haven't often been at their best in front of their own fans this season, but they have still only ended up on the losing side in three of their 23 home games this season. Stoke did pick up a 1-0 win at Anfield that isn't included in that tally, as Liverpool went on to win on penalties in the semi-finals of the League Cup. In the Europa League, Liverpool are unbeaten in nine home games stretching back to 2012, which is their only Anfield loss in Europe's second-tier competition since March 2003 - a run of 27 games.
7.38pmIt will certainly not be an easy task for Dortmund to overcome the Reds tonight, then, but their form since the turn of the year will give them every confidence that they can do it. They have the goals and the quality in their side to cause the hosts some serious problems, and as long as they don't have another off day like they did in the first leg then they should have a very good chance to progressing to the semi-finals tonight.
7.40pmDortmund are still unbeaten in 2016 - a run that now stretches to 18 matches, including 14 victories. Two of the four draws in that time have come in their last two outings, though, which hints at a slight dip, although Liverpool will not be reading too much into that. The first of those draws was against the Reds in the first leg, of course, while the second came in the Ruhr derby against Schalke at the weekend.
7.42pmThat result at the Veltins Arena all but ended Dortmund's slim Bundesliga title hopes as Schalke came from behind twice to rescue a 2-2 draw. All of the goals came in the space of 15 second-half minutes as Kagawa and Ginter both gave Dortmund the lead, only to be quickly pegged back on both occasions. The result saw Dortmund slip seven points adrift of Bayern at the top of the table, although the fact that Tuchel opted to rest of number of players hinted that tonight's game was his priority anyway.
7.44pmEven before the weekend, it would have been a tall order for Dortmund to catch Bayern with time running out, but the likelihood of Pep Guardiola's side dropping seven points in the final five games of the season is very slim indeed. Dortmund are still in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal, though, so there is still a chance of domestic silverware, and if they can overcome Liverpool tonight then they could be on course for a double.
7.46pmWhatever happens, Dortmund need to score tonight, so a Liverpool goal would not change their own targets too much. That is perhaps fortunate for a side who have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five games - a far cry from the run that saw them concede just one goal in the nine matches immediately prior to that run. They have the goals to outscore Liverpool, though, even matching Bayern Munich for goals scored in the Bundesliga this season.
7.48pmDortmund are one of only two teams to have made it all the way through to the quarter-finals of the competition from the qualifying rounds, with tonight's game being their 16th Europa League outing of the season. They have won 11 of the 15 so far, and have been particularly impressive in the knockout rounds with home and away wins over both Porto and Tottenham before their draw in the first leg of this tie. They were less convincing in the group stages, though, as they lost their final two games to finish behind Krasnodar.
7.50pmThey have had more shots than any other side in this season's competition, firing a whopping 196 on goal so far, a tournament-high 10 of which have hit the woodwork. It is no surprise, then, that many are backing them to at least get an away goal tonight, and the likelihood of this game finish goalless - which would see Liverpool through - is very slim. Dortmund have not been held to a stalemate in their last 37 European outings.
7.52pmAway from home Dortmund have not lost in any competition since December 19, when they were beaten 2-1 at Koln. They have won seven and drawn two of their nine outings since then, including a 2-1 win in England less than a month ago when they completed their 5-1 aggregate triumph over Tottenham in the last 16. That was a particularly impressive result considering Spurs have the best home record in the Premier League this season, and was one of a six-match winning streak on the road that came to an end with the draw at Schalke on Sunday.
7.55pmPREDICTION: We're 10 minutes away from kickoff at Anfield, which means that it is time for a prediction! This is such a tough one to call, but one thing is for sure - it will be a special occasion at Anfield. The home fans are expected to create a cracking atmosphere, as they often do on European nights here, and that might be enough to give them the advantage. I can see it being close and going further than the 90 minutes, but I'm backing Liverpool to get through after extra time.
7.57pmLiverpool have never lost a European home game against German opposition, with 12 wins and three draws from the previous 15 occasions that they have hosted Bundesliga sides. They have only conceded one goal in the last 13 of those matches, including a 2-0 win over Dortmund in their only previous visit to Anfield.
7.59pmDortmund's record on these shores is not too shabby, though, with four wins and a draw from 10 previous visits. Overall they have a 50% win record against English opposition, with 11 wins from 22 matches. They have met Liverpool four times before, with one win apiece and two draws in that time.
8.01pmA spine-tingling version of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' rings around Anfield, with both sets of fans getting involved, just as they did in the first leg last week. This really does feel like one of those special European nights at Anfield, and the players in the tunnels must have goosebumps listening to this.
8.03pmThe statistics suggest it will be Liverpool who progress tonight, with the Reds having made it through on 11 of the last 12 occasions that they have drawn a European away first leg, with the only exception coming in the 2002-03 UEFA Cup against Celtic. Dortmund, on the other hand, having been eliminated in five of the six European ties when they have drawn the first leg at home.
8.03pmIt is, of course, the day before the 27th anniversary of Hillsborough today, and the Dortmund fans pay their own tribute to the 96 who lost their lives in the tragedy by holding up a mosaic of '96' in the away end.

It all starts with a loose pass from Coutinho and Dortmund are lightning on the break. It is a nice team move that opens Liverpool up, with Castro lifting a pass over the defence for Aubameyang. The striker is denied by a fine stop from Mignolet, but the rebound falls to Mkhitaryan and he sweeps it home easily.
7 minIt is a nightmare start for Liverpool, but they would have always expected to need a goal tonight. The fact that the away goal has come so early for Dortmund is a setback, but Liverpool are still very much in the tie.
9 minGOAL! Liverpool 0-2 Borussia Dortmund (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang)
9 minThis is ruthless stuff from Dortmund. They once again cut Liverpool open to take a two-goal lead inside nine minutes and take complete control of the tie. Reus brings the ball forward and threads a beauty of a ball inside Sakho and for Aubameyang to race on to. He collects it and bears down on goal before firing it into the near top corner.
11 minThat leaves Liverpool now needing three goals without reply to go through tonight. On the basis of the opening stages, that doesn't appear too likely as Dortmund really look in the mood tonight. Liverpool have a mountain to climb.
13 minKlopp talked up the influence that the Anfield crowd could have on this tie, but it has taken Dortmund less than 10 minutes to quieten them down. There are still strains of song from the Kop, but it is the visiting fans who are making most of the noise.

18 minCHANCE! Another half-chance for Liverpool, who are beginning to grow into the game now. Again Origi is involved as he checks back and delivers a cross to Moreno at the back post, but the left-back slices his attempted first-time volley off target.
21 minAlmost another chance for Liverpool to get one back! This time Firmino carries the ball down the left channel and manages to get a low cross into the middle that finds Lallana. He is heading away from goal and tries to hit one on the turn, but he kicks the ball with his standing foot first and has a swing and a miss as another opening goes begging.
23 minWell, Klopp will be happy with how his side have responded to that dreadful start in the opening 10 minutes, but it may be the case that the tie is now beyond them. Liverpool are pushing hard for a goal back to give themselves hope, but it is a tall order for the home side.
25 minCHANCE! Yet another chance for Liverpool! Milner makes progress down the right flank and picks out a cross that finds Origi, who has made a good run to the near post. He can only really attempt to flick it into the far corner, but he just doesn't get enough on it and it flies across the face of goal.
26 minImportant contribution from Sakho as he makes a fine last-ditch challenge to deny Aubameyang on the counter-attack just as the striker was about to let fly.
27 minCHANCE! Liverpool will need to start taking some of these half-chances if they are to get back into the game. They create another here as a cross arrives from the left and Firmino stoops to head it, but he is under pressure and can only steer his effort wide.
29 minImportant piece of defending from Sokratis to deny Lallana. They get in behind Dortmund down the right this time, with Firmino beating his man and then knocking it back to Lallana. He takes a touch and then goes for goal, but his effort is blocked.

34 minWith the exception of the first 10 minutes, Liverpool have actually played very well tonight. However, they have not had any easy chances so far and you'd feel that they probably need a goal before half time to give themselves a chance.
36 minCHANCE! Another half-chance for Dortmund, and again it falls to Aubameyang. Reus is the creator once more, bringing the ball into the box before playing a square pass into the middle. Aubameyang slides in for it, but it is just out of his reach and he can only divert it wide.
38 minSHOT! Coutinho plays a one-two with Firmino on his way into the area, but once again his low strike takes a deflection on its way wide of the target.
39 minCHANCE! Yet another half-chance for Liverpool! After a corner comes to nothing, Lovren throws a beauty of a cross into the box that Origi is there to attack. He gets above Piszczek, but the right-back just just enough to deny the striker a clean header and once again Weidenfeller is not tested.
41 minLiverpool have had a whole host of half-chances in this match, but Weidenfeller still hasn't had a save to make. They need to be a lot more clinical if they are to pull off a memorable comeback here.
43 minCHANCE! Dortmund are still looking threatening almost every time they come forward too, though, and they have another chance here as a ball is fizzed in low towards the near post. Kagawa steers it on target, but he effort lacks power and Mignolet is able to collect.

9.02pmThe first half comes to an end at Anfield, and it is Dortmund who are in complete control of this tie now. They made a lightning start to the match to take the aggregate lead and, while Liverpool have responded well to that, it is a long way back for the hosts now.
9.02pmThe opening goal arrived after just five minutes when Mkhitaryan swept home a rebound after Mignolet had kept out Aubameyang. It all stemmed from Coutinho giving the ball away, and Dortmund were so quick to hit their hosts on the break with a slick team move. Mignolet did all he could to keep Dortmund at bay, but in the end the yellow shirts were queuing up to score.
9.04pmAubameyang got his own name on the scoresheet less than four minutes later to complete Dortmund's 10-minute blitz at the start of the match, and again it came on the break. Marco Reus brought the ball forward before threaded a through-ball inside Sakho and around the corner for Aubameyang. From there, the in-form striker was never likely to miss and sure enough he lashed it into the near top corner.

They have created a whole host of half-chances, but haven't had a single shot on target so far. Origi has come close on a couple of occasions and is causing Dortmund problems, while the likes of Moreno, Lallana, Firmino and Coutinho have also threatened, but Weidenfeller has so far been untested.
9.08pmThree goals without reply is what Liverpool need to qualify, and while they have created enough openings to suggest that the former is just about possible if they sharpen up their finishing, they also need to worry about Dortmund at the other end. The visitors look dangerous every time they come forward and may not be done with the scoring just yet.

59 minIs there any way back for Liverpool now? Well, if they manage it then it will go down alongside some of their greatest European nights here at Anfield, but I think Dortmund can breathe pretty easily right now.

10.11pmPhew! What a match that was, and Liverpool come out on top in the seven-goal thriller to book their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League in the most dramatic fashion. It may be Europe's second-tier competition, but this is a game that will go down alongside Olympiacos and Chelsea in the list of Liverpool's greatest European nights at Anfield. They had to come from two goals down twice, but eventually got the winner to knock the tournament favourites out.
10.13pmIt looked like the tie might have been beyond Liverpool after just 10 minutes this evening when Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang both scored to put Dortmund in complete control of the contest. Origi got one back for Liverpool early in the second half, but they were once again left needing three goals when Reus slid a finish home shortly before the hour mark. Coutinho gave his side hope again, however, before late goals from Sakho and Lovren completed a memorable European comeback for the hosts.
