Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson hopes to repay the faith shown in him by Jurgen Klopp, having been used heavily in the Reds' run to the Champions League final.

Andrew Robertson is hoping to push on from last season and admits that defeat for Liverpool in May's Champions League final is a big motivating factor.

The Scottish full-back featured in each knockout round for the Reds as they made it all the way to the Kiev showpiece, where they lost 3-1 to a Gareth Bale-inspired Real Madrid.

Robertson is now a certain starter for Liverpool at left-back just a year after arriving from Hull City in an initial £8m deal, and the 24-year-old hopes to continue to repay the faith shown in him by boss Jurgen Klopp.

"Of course I was disappointed with how last season ended," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I don't think anyone expected us to get to the Champions League final other than the people inside the club but everyone took notice of us after the Porto game and we just built from that.

"We were desperate to win it and when you get so close it's hard to let go and we'll use that as motivation and hopefully it can be an advantage rather than a disadvantage for us this season.

"Last season I was settling in. I missed the first four or five months through a mixture of things including Alberto [Moreno] playing very well and being the main one but obviously I got my chance.

"I'm glad the manager put me in and I hope I repaid him back. I've got to keep trying to do that – this season is big for me – and hopefully I can get off to a good start and just kick on from where I left off last season."

Robertson played 30 times for Liverpool in all competitions last season, including six appearances in the Champions League.
