Mohamed Salah "very disappointed" not to be named Liverpool captain

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah admits that he was saddened by Jurgen Klopp's decision not to hand him the armband against FC Midtjylland earlier this month.

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has admitted that he was "very disappointed" not to be named captain of the Reds' team for their Champions League bout with FC Midtjylland earlier this month.

Jurgen Klopp's side had already secured their place in the last 16 and had little to play for in Denmark, but Salah was nevertheless named in the starting lineup on the night.

The 28-year-old opened the scoring within the first minute in that 1-1 draw, which saw Klopp decide to hand the armband to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Now, Salah has expressed his disappointment with not being given that responsibility, telling AS: "Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was hoping to be the captain, but it's a coach's decision. I accept it."

Salah has already found the back of the net 14 times this season - including three goals in the Champions League - but the Egypt international has not ruled out a future move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Salah was today named on the bench for Liverpool's trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
