Sadio Mane says that he is "confident" Liverpool can beat anyone in the Premier League and in Europe, despite their mixed start to the campaign.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has targeted Champions League success this season after admitting that he is "confident" his side can beat any other European team.

The Reds marked their return to UEFA's showpiece competition with a 2-2 draw against Sevilla a fortnight ago and now take on Spartak Moscow in their next outing on Tuesday evening.

Despite their shaky domestic form this term, which has seen them win three and lose two of their first seven matches, Mane believes that Liverpool are well suited to achieve success on the continent.

"I'm confident that we can beat anyone in the Premier League and especially in Europe," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. "It is too early to say that we can win the Champions League for the sixth time but we are here to do our best and win trophies for the club.

"And we still believe we have a good defence. The whole team have to take responsibility because if we score more goals than the opposition we win the game. We don't have a problem in defence. We have great quality in the team, great players. It is a joy to play alongside all of them.

"It is a very happy club. We are all trying to do our best for the club. Will we run out of steam before the season ends? No, I don't think we will. Everyone is more than happy to put the effort in. We are a fit and healthy group so seeing out the season at our pace should not be a problem for us."

Mane, recently tipped to join Real Madrid next year, is in contention to feature against Spartak after serving a three-game domestic ban.
