Lionel Messi has scored his 600th goal for Barcelona with a stunning free kick in the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool.

The Argentine began the night on 598 goals for the club across all competitions, and he brought up the unprecedented landmark figure with a crucial brace at Camp Nou.

Number 599 saw Messi walk the ball into the back of the net with just over 15 minutes remaining, doubling Barcelona's lead on the night from close range after Luis Suarez's initial effort had come back off the bar.

However, it was his 600th in a Barcelona shirt which will steal the headlines as Messi picked out the top corner with a brilliant free kick from all of 30 yards out, 14 years to the day after scoring his first goal for the club.

Messi is the first player in history to reach that figure for Barcelona and only the seventh player to have achieved the feat at club level.

The 31-year-old follows in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Romario, Josef Bican, Gerd Muller and Ferenc Puskas in scoring 600 goals in their club career.
