Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp backs his side to impress over two legs against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has backed his side to impress over two legs against Manchester City in the Champions League.

The Reds host Pep Guardiola's team at Anfield on Wednesday in the first leg of the last-eight tie, with both sides having earned a victory against each other this season.

German boss Klopp told reporters that while City have been more "consistent" in the Premier League this term, his side have the chance to pull off a famous victory over the two European ties.

"Did we think before the first game we would lose 5-0? No," the manager said. "Did we think before the second we would win 4-3? No. But do we know we have a chance? Yes.

"Actually that was clear before, but they are the favourites. At specific moments I think we are on a similar level but they have been much more consistent and that's why they are about 20 [points] higher in the league.

"We see our chance, but we know it will be unbelievably difficult. But if I would have had the choice to watch a Champions League game on Wednesday, I would watch this one. It is about tactics but there will be fire in the game, so that's cool. And it's at Anfield, so the atmosphere will be good."

Both sides come into this fixture off the back of victories, with Liverpool defeating Crystal Palace and City easing past Everton.
