Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Genk

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday night's Champions League showdown with Genk in Belgium.

Liverpool's topsy-turvy Champions League defence next takes them to Belgium on Wednesday night when they face Genk at the Luminus Arena.

The holders were beaten by Napoli on matchday one before letting a three-goal lead slip at home to Red Bull Salzburg last time out, although they did eventually go on to score the winner in that seven-goal thriller.

Jurgen Klopp's side were also short of their best en route to a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday as their 100% start to the season and 17-match top-flight winning streak came to an end at the home of their fiercest rivals.

The Reds remain clear at the top of the Premier League table and on course to qualify from Group E, though, and here Sports Mole rounds up their latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: October 23 (vs. Genk)

Mohamed Salah was something of a surprise exclusion at Old Trafford due to an ankle injury he sustained against Leicester City before the international break. Liverpool hung his shirt up in the dressing room beforehand, though, suggesting that he was not far away from fitness and could therefore be ready to return for this match.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Calf
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Xherdan Shaqiri has not featured in the Liverpool squad for a month now due to a calf injury and was once again excluded from the travelling party for this one. The Swiss international's recovery is almost complete, though, and he could be in contention to feature at the weekend.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Status: Out
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Alexander-Arnold was left out of Liverpool's travelling party for this match after coming down with an illness, although he is expected back again by the weekend.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Klopp confirmed that Matip suffered a flare-up of his previous knee injury following the United match, and has therefore not travelled to Belgium. It is not a serious problem, though, and he too could be ready for the Tottenham game.

Nathaniel Clyne

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Nathaniel Clyne picked up a serious knee injury during pre-season and is therefore not expected to re-enter the first-team picture until next year.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this match.
