Claude Puel: Only a matter of time before Jamie Vardy gets back among the goals

Vardy has three goals for Leicester this season.

Jamie Vardy has been backed to rediscover his scoring touch by Leicester boss Claude Puel.

The striker has netted just once from open play in his last seven games and remains a doubt for Saturday’s visit of West Ham.

He has battled a stomach problem after coming off late when Leicester had made all their substitutes in Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal but has returned to training.

Vardy has found the net three times this season and Puel expects him to maintain the form which has seen him score 60 Premier League goals since the start of 2015/16.

He said: “He finished with 20 goals last season and it was normal. He is getting more shots statistically. Recently he is also getting big chances. He has all the good things around him with good service.

“It is just to find confidence and a good run of stability and consistency in his play because he is a player who needs to fight in his play.

“Jamie has had a difficult start because he came back from the World Cup without a pre-season and without good work with his team-mates. After he has had a long suspension (after a red card against Wolves).

“It is difficult to find a good consistency and concentration and perhaps he is a little up and down but it is a normal thing.

“Since the beginning of the season he has had more shots on average per game and is getting more support from James (Maddison) or (Kelechi) Iheanacho.

“He always has good attributes and he will score a lot of goals and will be fine with a lot of good stability and to play regularly.

“It was not a possibility for him since the beginning of this season. He has had a problem in the last game with his stomach also.”
