Leeds United are locked in a straight battle with Swansea City for Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo, according to a report.

Leeds United are reportedly attempting to bring Alvaro Negredo to the club from Valencia after agreeing to meet the Spanish club's £6.4m valuation.

The 31-year-old, who spent last season on loan in the Premier League with Middlesbrough, has previously been linked with a switch to Championship rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves are said to be unwilling to cough up the full asking price, though, meaning that Leeds are expected to be in a straight shootout with Swansea City to land the Spain international.

According to The Mirror, it is the Whites who have the edge as they have Spanish technical director Victor Orta among their backroom staff - the same man who brought Negredo to Middlesbrough last summer.

Former Manchester City ace Negredo, with just one full campaign at the Mestalla under his belt, scored 10 goals in 38 league outings for Boro in 2016-17.
