Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen is confident of keeping in-demand forward Chris Wood at Elland Road this summer.

Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen has said that he is confident of keeping Chris Wood at Elland Road this summer.

Wood scored 30 times in 48 appearances for Leeds last season, and a number of clubs, including Turkish giants Besiktas, have been credited with an interest in the New Zealand international.

Burnley, meanwhile, are believed to have failed with a £15m move for the powerful striker over the weekend.

Christiansen, however, has said that his club 'cannot sell their best players' if they wish to be successful this season.

"There's no doubt that he's [not] going to leave. They can come in with many bids – of course he's a good striker – but I want him to stay and if we want to achieve something this season, you cannot sell your best players," Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I haven't talked to the club about it but I imagine that they are as ambitious as I am. If we want to go up we need to keep the players. We also need to sign good players.

"Last year he was very important, the top scorer, and this season he will be important. He needs to do it on the pitch with good performances and scoring goals. That's what we expect but he will, for sure, deliver."

Wood has scored once in two Championship appearances for Leeds this season.
