Championship gameweek 27 predictions including Cardiff vs. Swansea

Sports Mole provides score predictions for all 12 Championship fixtures this weekend, including the Brentford vs. QPR and Cardiff vs. Swansea derbies.

Brentford vs. QPR (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Third-placed Brentford host an in-form Queens Park Rangers side in a Championship London derby on Saturday.

Mark Warburton's side are 15th in the league standings but are only six points off a playoff place and come into the game off the back of two emphatic wins.

We say: Brentford 3-1 QPR

This game should see plenty of goals, given the attacking prowess of both teams, but QPR are significantly weaker at the back than Brentford and that could prove to be their undoing.

Barnsley vs. Huddersfield (Saturday, 3pm)

Two sides sitting at the bottom of the Championship come together when Huddersfield Town travel to face Barnsley on Saturday.

The home side are in real trouble, level on points with bottom club Luton Town, while Huddersfield are sitting gingerly in 20th place.

We say: Barnsley 1-2 Huddersfield Town

Barnsley will throw everything at this game, getting the ball into the final third as often as possible, but their woeful defensive record means that the home side are very likely to ship goals at the other end.

Blackburn vs. Preston (Saturday, 3pm)

Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End meet at Ewood Park in the Championship on Saturday for what promises to be a fiery Lancashire derby.

With just three points and three places separating the two teams in the table, this fixture looks likely to be a highly competitive affair.

We say: Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Preston North End

In a game between two local rivals so close to each other in the table, with both teams going through a patch of lowly form, expect this game to be a cagey, attritional affair, with a draw the most likely outcome.

Charlton vs. West Brom (Saturday, 3pm)

Struggling Charlton Athletic may be looking nervously towards the relegation zone as they face a tough visit from title-chasing West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Lee Bowyer's side are 19th in the Championship table, five points clear of the drop, but they host a Baggies side that trail league leaders Leeds United on goal difference alone.

We say: Charlton 0-2 West Brom

Charlton are a struggling side and their plethora of injuries is making life difficult for Bowyer. Even though West Brom are not flying at the moment, they should still have too much for their hosts.

Hull vs. Fulham (Saturday, 3pm)

One of the most interesting encounters in this weekend's Championship calendar will take place at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Hull City welcome Fulham.

Hull sit just two points outside of the playoffs ahead of the encounter with the Cottagers, who occupy fifth position with 42 points to show from their 26 league matches during the 2019-20 campaign.

We say: Hull 1-1 Fulham

Hull will enter the match in the better form, while Fulham are without a victory in their last three away from home in the Championship. The Tigers have a lengthy injury list at the moment, though, and we expect the visitors to secure a share of the spoils on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds vs. Sheffield Wednesday (Saturday, 3pm)

Championship leaders Leeds United take on playoff-chasing Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby on Saturday.

Leeds are only ahead of West Bromwich Albion at the top of the table on goal difference and will be keen to stay ahead of their title rivals with a positive result.

We say: Leeds United 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Both the recent history of this fixture and both teams' prowess at the back indicate a low-scoring affair, but Leeds may just edge it on home soil.

Luton vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 3pm)

Luton Town boss Graeme Jones pictured on August 2, 2019© Reuters

Luton Town will be looking to move off the foot of the Championship table when they welcome Birmingham City to Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Hatters are currently bottom of the second tier with 21 points, while Birmingham occupy 18th position having collected 28 points from their first 26 matches of the 2019-20 campaign.

We say: Luton 1-1 Birmingham

Both teams will see this match as the perfect opportunity to pick up all three points. It is difficult to back either with any real confidence due to their recent form, though, and we therefore fancy a low-scoring draw.

Middlesbrough vs. Derby (Saturday, 3pm)

Two teams in good form will lock horns in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, with Middlesbrough welcoming Derby County to the Riverside Stadium.

Boro have won four of their last five matches in all competitions, while Derby will enter the contest off the back of three straight victories, including back-to-back successes in the league.

We say: Middlesbrough 1-1 Derby County

Both teams will enter the match full of confidence following strong runs, and we are therefore finding it difficult to separate them. The two managers would probably accept a draw if it were offered ahead of kickoff and that is what we expect to happen at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Reading vs. Nottingham Forest (Saturday, 3pm)

Reading manager Mark Bowen celebrates after the match in December 2019© Reuters

Both Reading and Nottingham Forest will be full of confidence heading into Saturday afternoon's fascinating Championship affair at the Madejski Stadium.

Indeed, Reading have won each of their last four in the Championship, while Forest have been victorious in their last three to sit firmly inside the playoff positions at this stage of the campaign.

We say: Reading 1-2 Nottingham Forest

This is a tough match to call considering the form of both teams. Reading will be confident heading into the contest, but we fancy Forest to pick up three important points courtesy of a narrow win.

Stoke vs. Millwall (Saturday, 3pm)

Stoke City manager Michael O'Neill on December 7, 2019© Reuters

Relegation-threatened Stoke City host high-flying Millwall as both sides look to take a big step towards the objectives for their respective seasons.

The Potters are just one point clear of the drop, while Millwall are a point off the playoffs and a win for either would be a major boost.

We say: Stoke City 0-0 Millwall

Both sides are in decent form and, while Millwall are the better side at present, Stoke have plenty riding on this fixture as well. Coupled with home advantage, the hosts may battle to just their fourth league draw of the season.

Wigan vs. Bristol City (Saturday, 3pm)

Wigan Athletic will be looking to move out of the Championship relegation zone when they welcome Bristol City to the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Latics are currently 22nd in the table having won just five of their 26 league outings this season, while Bristol City sit 11th having struggled for results over the last month or so.

We say: Wigan Athletic 2-2 Bristol City

Wigan have been the draw specialists in the Championship in recent weeks, and we are expecting more of the same at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Bristol City will see this game as the perfect chance to put three points on the board, but Johnson's side are not in the best form.

Cardiff vs. Swansea (Sunday, 12pm)

Swansea City's Ben Wilmot celebrates scoring their first goal against Cardiff on October 27, 2019© Reuters

Cardiff City host local rivals Swansea City at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday as the two sides battle for a place in the Championship playoffs.

Swansea made the faster start to the season and currently sit sixth in the table, but Cardiff are only four points back and know that a win will put them within a point of their arch rivals.

We say: Cardiff City 2-1 Swansea City

Swansea are suffering with injuries to two of their key centre-backs and this could prove the difference in a tight match like this. Expect Harris to have a plan for how to exploit this weakness and it will be interesting to see if Cooper can respond.
