McGinn issues rallying call ahead of Kilmarnock test

The Buddies proved they are a dangerous team with a win at Motherwell.

Paul McGinn knows there will not be many backing St Mirren to beat Kilmarnock but he reckons the Buddies have nothing to fear at Rugby Park.

Killie are flying high under Steve Clarke and sit just four points off top spot.

The Paisley side, on the other hand, are toiling at the wrong end of the table, and have just a two-point cushion on basement boys Dundee.

But McGinn remains confident and believes his side are capable of causing an upset on Saturday like they did away to Motherwell last week when Simeon Jackson's winner snatched a surprise three points.

McGinn told BuddieVision: "No-one will give us a chance down there.

"But then no-one gave us a chance against Motherwell, well the bookies didn't anyway but we got the win.

"Kilmarnock are doing really well but they're no superpower, so I don't see why we can't go and get three points at Rugby Park."

Saints were looking to climb out of the relegation play-off zone when they faced St Johnstone on Wednesday but suffered last-gasp heartache as Tony Watt struck in the last minute to hand Tommy Wright's men victory.

The agony of defeat is becoming a familiar feeling for boss Oran Kearney and his team but the Buddies manager is refusing to go down without a fight.

He said: "We've got to go again – but sadly we've been in this scenario before. We've got to pick ourselves up from a disappoint defeat, particularly from a last-minute one which is hard to take.

"We've licked out wounds and hopefully we can come back out on Saturday and get a result."
