Result: Luke Chambers scores late winner for playoff hopefuls Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town captain Luke Chambers scores a late winner as they defeat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town kept their hopes of gaining a Championship playoff place alive with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Doncaster Rovers at Portman Road.

Fifteen minutes into the game, Tyrone Mings almost got his first goal for the Tractor Boys with a thumping volley, but Sam Johnstone parried the ball away.

Paul Anderson then stood up his marker before beating him for pace and rolling the ball across the box for Stephen Hunt, but the left-winger put his effort wide.

At the other end, Chris Brown battled with the Ipswich defence and managed to get a shot away despite being stranded on the floor, and Dean Gerken had to be alert to deny the striker.

Gerken then denied Gabriel Tamas, who nodded at the goalkeeper from a corner before James Husband dragged his shot wide of goal as the visitors began to find a foothold in the game.

Mick McCarthy made two changes at the break, as he introduced Frank Nouble and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in place of Anderson and Hunt in search of all three points.

Just 60 seconds after the restart, Ipswich did manage to put themselves ahead. Mings swung a ball into the box, where Daryl Murphy rose highest to nod the ball beyond Johnstone.

However, Towns hopes of taking all three points seemed to have disappeared when Chris Brown netted from the spot with seven minutes remaining after a reckless challenge by Mings.

However, with the game approaching full time, Luke Chambers smashed the ball home from close range after Jonny Williams's shot deflected into his path.
