Preview: Preston North End vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Preston North End and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Preston North End welcome Huddersfield Town to Deepdale on Saturday afternoon looking for their first Championship win in four matches.

The Terriers, who sit four points adrift of their 14th-placed opponents, have prevailed in just one of their most recent 10 fixtures in the second tier.

Carlos Corberan, as well as Huddersfield Town's entire fanbase, were taken by surprise when the Terriers thrashed promotion contenders Swansea City last weekend.

However, the result proved to be a brief high point for the Spaniard, who then saw his side lose 2-0 to relegation rivals Derby County on Tuesday evening.

Having suffered three defeats in four games, Huddersfield sit just seven points above 22nd-placed Rotherham United, their Yorkshire rivals still possessing two games in hand.

While Corberan is aware that another victory could make all the difference in the short term, another setback at the weekend could result in Huddersfield dropping down to 20th position.

Preston have been positioned in mid-table since the turn of the year, but Alex Neil faces a difficult job to keep his team in contention for the playoffs.

Although they ended a two-match losing streak with a goalless draw against Queens Park Rangers in midweek, it did little for their ambitions to move up the standings.

Preston have now gone seven halves of football without finding the back of the net, a record which cannot be prolonged at a time when the clubs above them continue to accumulate points.

Despite remaining as the club's top goalscorer with eight goals, Scott Sinclair has now contributed just once in his last 11 appearances in the Championship.

Team News

Ched Evans could drop out of the Preston XI after failing to score in his last four outings, potentially leading to a start for Emil Riis Jakobsen.

Tom Barkhuizen and Daniel Johnson are also pushing for recalls in the final third as Neil looks for solutions to his side's lack of goals.

Corberan may revert back to a 3-4-3 formation after Isaac Mbenza made his return from the substitutes' bench in midweek.

Aaron Rowe will continue at left wing-back in the absence of the injured Harry Toffolo, while Jaden Brown serves a one-match ban after his dismissal at Pride Park.

New signing Yaya Sanogo may be considered for an immediate debut if Fraizer Campbell fails to shake off an abdominal problem.

Preston North End possible starting lineup:
Iversen; Van den Berg, Storey, Hughes, Cunningham; Browne, Whiteman; Sinclair, Johnson, Gordon; Jakobsen

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Schofield; Vallejo, Keogh, Sarr; Pipa, Bacuna, O'Brien, Rowe; Holmes, Sanogo, Mbenza

We say: Preston North End 0-0 Huddersfield Town

With neither side firing on all cylinders, this is not one of the most attractive fixtures this weekend. A lack of confidence could contribute to a goalless draw being played out, a result which would suit the visitors rather than the home team.
