The hosts had to settle for a point and climbed to ninth following the 0-0 draw.
Girona extended their winless run to five games but moved two points clear of the relegation zone.
An excellent double save from Yassine Bounou – when he turned Sandro Ramirez’s effort onto the post before saving Mikel Oyarzabal’s follow up – kept the score level in the second half.
Cristhian Stuani was denied a late winner for the visitors by Kevin Rodrigues’ block.
Neither side managed to create a clear chance in the first half before they shared fine opportunities after the break.
First, Bounou came to Girona’s rescue with 20 minutes to go when he tipped Sandro’s low effort onto the woodwork and then turned Oyarzabal’s strike from the angle wide.
With a minute left Rodrigues produced an excellent tackle to thwart eight-goal Stuani.
