Gareth Southgate's first match as permanent England manager ended in defeat this evening as his side were beaten 1-0 by Germany at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.
The visitors enjoyed the better of things for much of the game and came within inches of taking the lead in the first half when Adam Lallana struck the post.
However, fate had other ideas and Lukas Podolski - granted a farewell match by Germany - marked his 130th and final international appearance with a stunning winner to wrap up his career in style.
