How France could line up against Ukraine

Sports Mole looks at how France could line up for Wednesday's international friendly against Ukraine.

France begin their October schedule with an international friendly against Ukraine on Wednesday evening.

In a bid to return to some form of normality during the coronavirus pandemic, authorities have given permission for 1,000 supporters to attend the game in Paris.

However, Les Bleus are facing an opposition who have had their preparations significantly disrupted by two squad members registering a positive test, resulting in all Shakhtar Donetsk players having to withdraw.

Here, Sports Mole predicts which players Didier Deschamps could select for the fixture in the country's capital.

Out: Adrien Rabiot (isolation)

France are unable to call upon the services of Adrien Rabiot, who must spend time in Juventus' bio-secure bubble for the majority of the week.

With Portugal and Croatia to follow in quick succession, Deschamps is not expected to name his first-choice XI for this encounter.

Selection could be based on when players last represented their clubs, with many of the players who played on Sunday likely to be left out of the starting lineup.

Clement Lenglet, Kingsley Coman and Olivier Giroud all failed to get onto the pitch at the weekend, subsequently increasing their chances of a start on Wednesday.

Mike Maignan and Houssem Aouar, of Lille and Lyon respectively, may be provided with their debuts, while Leo Dubois will also hope for a rare opportunity at right-back.

Lucas Digne and N'Golo Kante should start in defence and midfield respectively after outings on Saturday, and Anthony Martial's dismissal for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur may lead to him being given a run out.

While Paris Saint-Germain's fixture with Angers on Friday should result in Presnel Kimpembe featuring at centre-back, Kylian Mbappe could be kept among the replacements.
