Result: Fleetwood Town take all three points in League One opener against Crewe Alexandra

Jamie Proctor caps off a fine debut for Fleetwood Town as the League One side take all three points.

Fleetwood Town kicked off their season with a 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra thanks to goals from David Ball and Jamie Proctor.

Both of Fleetwood's goals came just after the start of the second half, with Crewe missing a second half penalty to get them back into the game.

Playing League One football for the first time in their history, Fleetwood start the first half in a high tempo with early chances just missing the target.

Crewe matched Fleetwood's intensity and pressed the newly-promoted side into their own half with a couple of missed opportunities of their own.

With the game goalless at half time and a fairly dominant performance from Crewe, it was Fleetwood who took the lead as the Fishermen countered off a Crewe shot hitting the crossbar, with Ball scoring off a Proctor assist.

Not long after it was Proctor who would get his name on the scoresheet as the debutant hit a thunderous strike into the top corner from 25 yards out to make it 2-0.

Crewe could have got back into the game after they were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute when Liam Hogan was adjudged to have tripped Bradden Inman in the box.

Matt Tootle's penalty was saved by goalkeeper Chris Maxwell after Tootle's effort hit the shot-stopper's legs.

Crewe got a late consolation after Inman pulled one back in the 93rd minute.

Fleetwood held on for victory to win their first ever game in League One giving them all three points at Highbury Stadium.
