Gylfi Sigurdsson hopes to be given a more regular starting spot through the middle as he continues to adjust to life at Everton following a club-record move.

Gylfi Sigurdsson has said that he wants a central role at Everton, but admits that boss Ronald Koeman has a difficult task shoehorning in each of his attacking talents.

The Iceland international joined the Toffees from Swansea City in a club-record £45m deal during the summer transfer window, fresh on the back of a campaign that saw him contribute 22 goals in the Premier League.

Sigurdsson has yet to get off the mark at his new club in terms of goals or assists, though, at times being made to play out of position to accommodate Wayne Rooney who himself likes to play in the hole.

Speaking to The Times, the 28-year-old made clear that it is down to Koeman - currently under pressure at Goodison Park - to utilise his attacking talents in the best way possible.

"It is just down to the manager," he said. "He obviously has to make the decisions so it is not down to me or Wayne what happens. We have kind of gone through a tough period in the last few weeks where we played all the best teams in the league.

"At the end of the day both of us like to play more centrally. I think everyone knows that, and the manager knows that as well. I don't think me or Wayne has got electric pace so we prefer to be more inside. Whatever the manager picks we will be happy with and of course both of us will do the best for the team."

Sigurdsson was included in Everton's starting lineup to face Burnley on Sunday afternoon as part of a front three, while Rooney was left on the bench.
