Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury.

The Bosnian suffered the problem while playing in Wayne Rooney's testimonial against Manchester United, which ended in a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Besic managed to limp off the pitch unaided, but he confirmed on Twitter this morning that he will be on the sidelines for half a year.

He tweeted: "6 months out! #devastated."

The injury blow means that manager Ronald Koeman is unlikely to have Besic available until at least February.
