England manager Gareth Southgate refuses to reveal his number one goalkeeper for this summer's World Cup, but praises Jordan Pickford's display against Nigeria.

England manager Gareth Southgate has refused to reveal whether Jordan Pickford will be his side's number one goalkeeper at this summer's World Cup.

Pickford appears to be above both Jack Butland and Nick Pope in the pecking order for the number one jersey, having started his side's opening warm-up match against Nigeria on Saturday.

Southgate confirmed that he was "really pleased" with Pickford's performance at Wembley, but suggested that he is still undecided as to who will don the gloves for their final friendly against Costa Rica on Thursday.

"We'll give consideration to who plays in goal against Costa Rica over the next 24 or 36 hours," he told reporters.

"But I was really pleased with what Jordan did. Normally, when you play for England, there's not an awful lot of opportunity to produce a lot of saves.

"But his decision making on crosses, the punch he made, his distribution and calmness to slide passes into midfield... that was really important to the way we want to play. He can be very pleased with his performance."

England's World Cup campaign gets underway against Tunisia in Volgograd on June 18.
