England manager Gareth Southgate says that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is still in his thoughts ahead of the World Cup, despite the player's recent injury setback.

England manager Gareth Southgate has insisted that Jack Wilshere still has time to earn a place in his squad for this summer's World Cup.

Earlier this month, Wilshere was given a recall to the national team squad for the friendlies with the Netherlands and Italy, but the Arsenal midfielder was forced to withdraw from the group due to injury.

The double-header was Wilshere's last opportunity to impress Southgate before he moves ahead with naming his squad for Russia, but the Three Lions boss has indicated that the player remains in his thoughts.

At a press conference, the 47-year-old told reporters: "I don't think it's too late for anybody. It's obviously more difficult because there are a couple of players who have been in squads who have not had chance to play for us.

"We'll still be monitoring everyone between now and the end of the season because there is probably a squad of around 31 or 32 players who are in contention and none of us know what is going to happen over the next eight to 10 weeks.

Wilshere has not represented England since Euro 2016.
