Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope says that he is hopeful for the future after being included in the latest England squad.

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is hopeful that he has an England future after being part of the squad for recent friendlies.

The 25-year-old received a call-up from manager Gareth Southgate for matches against the Netherlands and Italy, but he did not get any game time.

Instead, Everton's Jordan Pickford and Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland were chosen to audition for the Three Lions boss ahead of this summer's World Cup, but Pope feels positive about the future.

"If, at the start of the season, you had said that I would have said 'you're mad'," Pope told reporters following England's 1-1 draw with Italy. "It's nice to have my name in the arena.

"I've enjoyed the training and I think I've done well, so fingers crossed that will stand me in good stead for the future."

Pope has impressed as Burnley's number one since replacing injured Tom Heaton in September.
