England left-back Ryan Bertrand insists that his side are still "positive" and "very confident" despite finishing second in Group B after a 0-0 draw with Slovakia.

England left-back Ryan Bertrand has insisted that his side remain "very confident" despite finishing second in Group B behind Wales.

Roy Hodgson's side needed a win against Slovakia to guarantee top spot, but their 0-0 draw, coupled with Wales thrashing Russia 3-0, saw them only clinch a runners-up berth.

However, Bertrand, who was one of six changes to the side, is confident that England will be more suited to knockout football and that their best is still ahead of them.

"We have great strength in depth, that's tournament football for you. It is a defensive tournament, there have been a lot of late goals. Hopefully the knockout stage will complement our style," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We remain positive. We are very confident and can't wait to get going again. We will be paying close attention over the next few days to see who we will play."

England will face the Group F runners-up - either Hungary, Iceland, Portugal or Austria - in the last 16.
