Dundee pick up Andrew Nelson

The striker did not play a game for Sunderland.

Dundee have signed 21-year-old striker Andrew Nelson from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

Nelson did not play a first-team game for Sunderland but has been out on loan to the likes of Hartlepool and Falkirk, where he scored four goals in 15 games last season.

His most recent temporary move was to National League North side Darlington, where he netted six times in five matches.

Dundee confirmed Nelson had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Manager Jim McIntyre remains in the transfer market for a centre-back after losing new signing Andrew Davies to a broken foot.

The former Ross County captain suffered the injury during a bounce game.

McIntyre said: "It's a huge blow first and foremost for him, coming to a new club and desperate to make an impact, and also for us, because I know exactly what we were getting.

"Sometimes football has that wee habit of giving you a slap in the face and it was a real sore one to take.

"There was absolutely nobody near him, he just turned to push off and spring away.

"But we have to move on, we are not going to have him for the next eight to 10 weeks so others need to step up to the plate.

"We have got that in mind that we are short in that area, obviously we have Darren (O'Dea) suspended for the next two games as well."

Meanwhile, McIntyre is keen for Glen Kamara to move to Rangers immediately after the midfielder signed a pre-contract deal.

"As far as I'm aware there are still ongoing talks so we will see what comes of that," said McIntyre, whose team host Queen of the South in the William Hill Scottish Cup on Saturday,

"I would rather he went just now, and I think that's exactly what Glen is looking for as well. It's difficult for a player to focus on the job in hand when he knows he's going somewhere else."
