Dundee United have confirmed that they have parted company with head coach Mixu Paatelainen.

Following the club's relegation to the second tier of Scottish football, Paatelainen insisted that he had no intention of moving on.

However, following a series of meetings, both parties have now agreed to sever ties with immediate effect.

"I would like to thank the players, staff and supporters," the Finn said in a statement on the club's official website.

"It has been a difficult winter and the challenge was huge but nevertheless I have enjoyed every day working for the Club and with this group of players."

The 49-year-old had been in charge at Tannadice Park since October 2015.
