Derby County, Cardiff City game postponed due to weather conditions

Derby County confirm that Sunday's Championship game with Cardiff City has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions in and around the Derby area.

Derby County have confirmed that Sunday's Championship game with Cardiff City has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.

The match at Pride Park was due to kick off at 12pm, with two of the division's top sides seeking three crucial points in their quest for promotion.

However, following heavy snowfall in and around the Derby area over the weekend, officials decided to postpone the match on Sunday morning.

Pride Park has under-soil heating and the playing surface was expected to be fit for playing, but the amount of snow on nearby roads and concourses has put paid to the fixture.

"Following persistent heavy snowfall in Derby overnight, the surrounding areas at Pride Park Stadium have been left in an unsafe condition for supporters, staff and officials," read a statement on the Derby website. "A new match date will be communicated to supporters in due course."

Between 2,000 and 3,000 Bluebirds fans were expected to make the trip to the East Midlands hoping to see Neil Warnock's side win an eighth consecutive league game.
