Derby County's George Thorne suffers double leg break

Derby County midfielder George Thorne will miss the Rams' playoff campaign after suffering a double leg break.

George Thorne has been ruled out of Derby County's playoff campaign after suffering a double leg break during his side's final-day defeat to Ipswich Town.

The 23-year-old midfielder was stretchered off late in the game at the iPro and the club and player have now confirmed that he will be out for three months.

Tractor Boys midfielder Jonathan Douglas, who was involved in the incident, posted a message on Twitter saying that he was "absolutely gutted" by the turn of events.

"In no way did I intend on hurting him," Douglas wrote. "I was just trying to block his shot and help my team. I did apologise to him on the pitch and would like to put it on record again that am I sorry. I truly wish him a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with George and hope he'll be back as soon as possible for Derby who I also wish good luck to in their playoff campaign."

Derby host Hull City in the first leg of their playoff semi-final on Saturday.
