Pape Souare "proud" to make Crystal Palace appearance in Premier League

Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare admits that he was delighted to make his return to Premier League action, 20 months after being involved in a car crash.

Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare has revealed that he felt "proud" to make an appearance in the club's 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Souare suffered career-threatening injuries in a car crash in September 2016, and while the full-back has made three outings in cup competitions, playing in the Premier League had previously eluded him.

However, after featuring for the final eight minutes at Selhurst Park, Souare has admitted that he was relieved to finally get another chance to represent the Eagles in the top flight.

The 27-year-old is quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying: "I felt good because I've been training with the team at least for a month, so I know them, so I know this stadium as well, so everything went well. It was a long recovery for me and I'm very happy to be back playing on the pitch.

"I was always working hard, and [Roy Hodgson] thought I deserved to come in and he gave me the chance, and even if it is not long, I'm happy and proud to be on the pitch again."

Before Sunday's game, Souare had not played competitive football for Palace since the start of 2018.
