A report claims that Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski as they have doubts over loan striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Chelsea have reportedly been in contact with the representatives of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski about a summer move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are said to be in the market for a new number nine, despite bringing in Gonzalo Higuain from Juventus in January.

Higuain has struggled to make an impact during his loan spell in West London, scoring just three times in 11 appearances, and Chelsea are unlikely to take up the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

According to The Mirror, the Premier League side's search for a new goalscorer is said to have taken them to the Bundesliga, with Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund's Alexander Isak on their radar.

Initial discussions are rumoured to have started between Lewandowski's advisors and Chelsea, though the Blues acknowledge thagt they still have a long way to go if they are to sign the £70m-rated striker.

The Poland international scored twice in Bayern's 5-0 win against former club Borussia Dortmund on Saturday to take him past the 200-goal mark in the Bundesliga.

Ex-Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp would also supposedly be interested in bringing Lewandowski to the Premier League with Liverpool should he become available.
