Who is Chelsea's 'next Jadon Sancho' Charlie Webster?

With Borussia Dortmund being linked with Chelsea youngster Charlie Webster, Sports Mole takes a look at the player dubbed 'the next Jadon Sancho'.

With Manchester United said to be in two minds over whether to push through a big-money move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, Chelsea have been suggested as an alternative option for the England international.

However, should they opt to cash in on their most prized asset, Dortmund must decide how to use the funds generated from the sale of the productive 20-year-old.

According to reports, Charlie Webster, a player dubbed the 'next Sancho', is being considered by the Bundesliga outfit, despite the prospect only turning 16 years of age in January.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the talented Englishman, who is only tied to the West Londoners for just over a year.

Where does he play?

Unlike Sancho, Webster goes about his business in the centre of the pitch.

In theory, this could limit his chances of breaking into the Chelsea senior setup in the near future, but Webster only has to look at Billy Gilmour to see that he will be given an opportunity if he continues to progress at Stamford Bridge.

How has he performed this season?

After impressing in his current age group, Webster was provided with an opportunity to make the step up to the Under-18s at the beginning of February.

With the young Blues 2-0 ahead against Southampton, Webster was given the final 31 minutes, helping his team maintain their lead over the Saints.

International experience?

Despite his age, Webster is not short of international experience. Since the beginning of the season, he has earned caps at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

Although the majority of them came in the lower age group, he came off the substitutes' bench in a 4-1 triumph over United States Under-17s in February.

Is he likely to feature in the starting lineup?

All things considered, it will likely be another couple of years before we see Webster involved in senior football.

Nevertheless, Chelsea, under Frank Lampard, and Dortmund are not clubs who will be shy when it comes to handing him his chance should he prove himself in second-string fixtures.
