Chelsea captain Gary Cahill insists that his side must take maximum points from their final three games of the season to give themselves a chance of a top-four finish.

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has set his sights on taking maximum points from his side's final three games of the season.

The Blues are currently playing catch-up in the top-four race with five points separating them from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of this afternoon's match against fellow Champions League hopefuls Liverpool.

Chelsea will then take on Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United in their final two league games of the season, and Cahill insists that all his side can do is win their remaining games.

"Whenever we play Liverpool it is an intense game and there have been some classics between these two teams over the years, so we expect a good match this afternoon," Cahill wrote in his programme notes.

"We have nine Premier League points still to play for and we want to take all of them. While it will be difficult, we can only look to win our remaining games and hope it is enough to put us in contention for a top-four place come the final round of fixtures."

Should Chelsea fail to creep into the top four then it would be the second time in the space of three seasons that they have missed out on Champions League qualification.
