Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger struggles to explain why he was dropped for the trip to Southampton.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was at a loss to explain why he was omitted from the Blues squad to face Southampton at the weekend.

The Germany international has confirmed that he was fully fit for the match, which his side won 3-2, and was baffled by manager Antonio Conte's decision to drop him.

"I have no idea. I am fully fit," he told German TV show Das aktuelle Sportstudio when asked why he did not play against the Saints.

Rudiger is rumoured to have been dropped for questioning Conte's tactics during the 1-1 draw with West Ham United one week earlier.

The Italian coach, however, has claimed that the decision was "tactical".
