Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich 'loses £2.4bn due to coronavirus shutdown'

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly seen his net worth plummet by £2.4bn already due to the impact of coronavirus on the world's financial markets.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly seen his net worth plummet by £2.4bn already due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The world's financial markets have been severely affected by the outbreak of COVID-19, which is now thought to have claimed the lives of more than 10,000 people worldwide.

The Moscow Times reports that Russian billionaires have already lost more than £50bn between them this calendar year.

Abramovich has allegedly seen his own wealth fall by £2.4bn, although his net worth remains at almost £11bn.

The 53-year-old bought Chelsea in 2003, leading the club to 18 trophies since his takeover including five Premier League titles and the 2012 Champions League.

Abramovich has offered the hotel at Stamford Bridge to NHS staff who need to self-isolate amid the escalating health crisis.
