Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher claims that Brighton & Hove Albion should have been awarded a penalty against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Former Premier League official Dermot Gallagher has claimed that the use of VAR would have resulted in Brighton & Hove Albion being awarded a penalty against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

During the early stages of the game - and a time when Chelsea established a 2-0 lead - Ezequiel Schelotto went down under a challenge from goalkeeper Willy Caballero, but the referee waved away the home side's appeals.

However, Gallagher agreed with boss Chris Hughton that a spot kick should have been given to the Seagulls at the Amex Stadium.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "It was reported on Sky Sports on the weekend that referee Jon Moss told Chris Hughton at half-time that he could not see it, and when you see the pictures, he obviously can't because he is on the left side of the picture.

"Caballero's body then shields him as he goes in. It is a foul on review, there is no doubt about it. And if it had gone to the VAR, it is a clear and obvious error and so would have been a penalty."

Chelsea would eventually go on to record a 4-0 win on the South coast.
