Joe Cole defends Timo Werner after Chelsea goal drought

Former midfielder Joe Cole backs Timo Werner to eventually come good at Chelsea despite prolonging his goalless streak against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Former midfielder Joe Cole has claimed that he has "no doubts" about Timo Werner eventually making a long-term impact at Chelsea.

The Germany international has contributed nine goals and four assists from 20 appearances since arriving at Stamford Bridge from RB Leizpig.

However, as well as several of those strikes coming from the penalty spot, the 24-year-old has now not found the back of the net since November 7.

Despite another below-par showing during Tuesday's defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cole has backed Werner to show his quality later in the campaign.

Speaking on Amazon Prime, Cole said: "I think Werner, when he comes in off that left, he's very, very dangerous. I just think he just needs to brush up on his finishing, but he's a young striker and he will do that.

"So I've got no doubts he'll be a top player for Chelsea, but there are options now and Frank Lampard needs to move it around."

After a hectic schedule, Chelsea are not back in action until Monday evening when they play host to West Ham United.
