New Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko reveals that he turned down a move to the Premier League in order to join the Scottish champions.

New Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko has revealed that he turned down the chance to move to the Premier League in order to join the Scottish Premiership champions.

The 24-year-old, who has four caps and a goal to his name for Denmark, completed a £1.5m move from FC Midtjylland earlier this week.

He has now vowed to "give everything" for his new side and claimed that he chose Celtic over other options as they are a "winning club".

"It means a lot. It means I'm finally away from Denmark. It has been a tough wait for me. When Celtic came in for me, I felt this was a very good decision. This is a winning club," he told reporters.

"The fans can expect someone who will give everything, who will connect with them. I walked around Celtic Park and had goosebumps. I could have gone to Italy and the Championship and, last year, to the Premier League but when this opportunity came along I was so happy we could connect the dots."

Sviatchenko could make his debut for Ronny Deila's side when they host Hamilton Academical on Tuesday night.
