Celtic playmaker Callum McGregor says that his side made the perfect start to their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 4-1 win over Hearts.

Celtic playmaker Callum McGregor has hailed his side's performance during their 4-1 victory over Hearts.

The defending Scottish Premiership champions dominated from start to finish in Glasgow, and McGregor netted his team's fourth goal after Leigh Griffiths and Scott Sinclair had both got on the scoresheet.

Brendan Rodgers's side are looking to replicate last season's unbeaten domestic campaign, and McGregor says that the club have made the ideal start towards that target.

The 24-year-old told BBC Radio Scotland: "It was a great start to the season. We wanted to put on a show for the first day of the season and we have done that.

"It was important for us to hit the ground running and show the others we mean business. In the first half, they sat in and made things difficult. We just had to be patient and play the way we do and thankfully we got the goals in the end."

Celtic are next in action when they face Kilmarnock in the League Cup on Tuesday night.
