Former midfielder Kris Commons says that Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard has become a better player than Moussa Dembele.

Former midfielder Kris Commons has claimed that Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard has developed into a better player than Moussa Dembele.

While the latter contributed 51 goals from 94 appearances before leaving for Lyon in 2018, Edouard has netted 29 times from 64 outings since impressing in an earlier loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite Dembele possessing the better strike-rate of the pair, Commons feels that Celtic are better off with his replacement in the team.

The ex-playmaker is quoted by the Daily Record as saying: "I really rate Edouard and I remember speaking to Scott Brown back when there was talk of Dembele leaving.

"Odsonne was still on loan from Paris St-Germain. I asked Broony how he was getting on and he said that he was going to be better than Dembele. He said: 'Yeah, because Edouard's got everything'.

"And he has. He's powerful, a great runner. He can hold it in and link up play. He can also score with both feet. It's not arrogance but he's got that bit of swagger that you need to be a top player. Edouard is improving with every performance I see. He's more of a natural goal threat."

Edouard, who has been tipped to eventually move to a bigger club, still has just under three years left on his contract.
