Celtic are awaiting scan results on Scott Brown’s injury as their captain battles to make the Europa League clash against RB Leipzig.

The 33-year-old midfielder went off injured in the first half of Celtic’s 4-2 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Hibernian on Saturday.

Manager Brendan Rodgers told Celtic TV: “We are just awaiting the scan results. It was a problem just below his knee and at the top of his calf.

“He didn’t want to come off but you could see he was struggling with his mobility and agility. It was a real sore one for him.”

The victory took Celtic’s recent goal tally to 10 in two games – having only hit seven in their first seven league matches.

And Rodgers has challenged his side to take that improved form into the Europa League on Thursday after they followed victory over Rosenborg with defeat in Salzburg in their opening two group games.

“We always have to go in with a mindset that we’re gong to get a positive result,” he said.

“Can we take our domestic form into that level? We know we are playing against a really good opponent. We respect it’s going to be a tough game, however we have come into much better form and confidence and it will be a real examination for us away from home in Europe. But we want to go in with the same quality and confidence.”

Celtic then take on Hearts in the Betfred Cup semi-finals at BT Murrayfield and Rodgers will take his team to train at the rugby venue beforehand.

“We’ll train at Murrayfield this week, so we’ll get a feel for that,” he said. “It’s obviously a big stadium, they tell me it’s a lovely pitch.

“And similar-wise to when I first came in here, there was a little feeling around playing at Hampden that maybe wasn’t so good.

“But you have got to go and own the pitch and impose your style. We know it will be a tough game against Hearts, they have started the season very well and been really consistent.

“But we’ll be a totally different team to the one that played them in the league earlier this season.”
