Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers describes his side as "a joy to watch" in their 5-0 hammering of Kilmarnock in the Scottish League Cup.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has described his side as "a joy to watch" after they swept aside Kilmarnock by a 5-0 scoreline last night to advance to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

In-demand youngster Kieran Tierney skippered the side for the encounter at Celtic Park, which saw Rodgers make eight changes from the XI that secured a 4-1 victory over Hearts in the opening game of the new Scottish Premiership season last weekend.

"It was a brilliant performance and a joy to watch the team. I genuinely think I can pick a team out of the squad I have and it will function to a high level," Rodgers told Sky Sports News.

"It was great to the see the concentration of the young players. When we had the ball our creativity and speed was excellent. It was a great demonstration of the strength of our squad. We had six players at the start of the game 20 and younger.

"It shows it is a club for young players to develop, to come through, and obviously I'm delighted for Tony Ralston scoring his first goal for Celtic.

"Kieran's goal was an incredible strike. It was a very pleasing performance. We are into our flow much quicker this season."

The Hoops are the defending champions in the competition following an unbeaten domestic season which also saw them secure the Scottish Cup and the Scottish Premiership title by a 30-point margin.
