Russell Slade "confident" of adding to Cardiff City squad

Russell Slade admits that he "would like a striker" to be brought to Cardiff City prior to next Wednesday's emergency loan deadline.

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has confirmed that he is hoping to bring in a striker on loan over the next week.

The Bluebirds have been left short of options up top following the injury picked up by summer signing Idriss Saadi, while flop forward Alex Revell was recently sent to Wigan Athletic.

That leaves Slade with an out-of-form Joe Mason, versatile loanee Sammy Ameobi and a tiring Kenwyne Jones who has spent the past fortnight on international duty.

Further options are likely to be added in attack prior to next Wednesday's emergency loan deadline, though, with Fraizer Campbell, Peter Odemwingie and Nikica Jelavic among those to have been linked with a switch to South Wales.

"We are confident we will bring someone in," Slade is quoted as saying by Wales Online. "We've looked at the Championship and the Premier League. We don't have a long list.

"It's a short one in terms of an emergency loan list. We would like a striker in before the Burnley game that's for sure."

Cardiff travel to face Derby County on Saturday afternoon, aiming to keep pace with the Championship's top six sides.
