Steven Defour ready to return for Burnley

Defour has been absent since January.

Sean Dyche has hailed the return of Belgium midfielder Steven Defour ahead of Burnley’s Carabao Cup trip to Burton on Tuesday.

Defour had been ruled out since January 20 after undergoing a knee operation but has come through a number of recent friendly matches unscathed.

And Dyche has indicated Defour will be given a chance to impress against the Brewers as one of a number of changes he intends to make to his starting line-up.

Dyche told a press conference: “Steven is pushing again now and he’s in a very strong frame of mind, he’s very clear-minded about his body and the readiness to go.

“Steven will have some involvement (at Burton). He’s got the knowledge of himself, his body and the game. He’s a rounded figure.

“Some players you can trust due to their experience, he’s very clear-minded about when he’s right and ready and he’s certainly that at the moment.”

Dyche’s men head to the Pirelli Stadium having belatedly got their season up and running with a thumping 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

But the starting line-up is set to be virtually unrecognisable, with the likes of Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes, Jeff Hendrick and Tom Heaton among those in line to come in.
